Name That Tune

Ok then...

The time has come to make Beatrice Petty fully interactive. I need your help thusly:

Whilst sipping java on our lovely patio this morning, the roomie had a super idea.

"Now that you are getting the *#@! over yourself", she said "You need a theme song."

True dat Sista.

So here's where y'all come in. Past theme songs of my life have included such gems as "All By Myself, "Super Freak", "the Joker", "C is For Cookie" and "Tomorrow" to name a few. Now I need to kick things up a notch. Bam.

The roomie's pick is "I'm Comin' Out" by Diana Ross, but I am not necessarily uber taken with this one... It might be what I am all about right now, but I feel the need to open up this topic for further discussion. Let's make a little contest out of it shall we? Feel free to post you comments below, or email me using the link on the side bar. The prize? I dunno, probably some stuff that I can snag from work, but I'll need to see what we have in the tickle trunk.

So, if you'd like to make difference in the life of Bea (not that you already don't, my little cyber-friends)... and perhaps get a nifty sumpin' sumpin' from your friendly neighbourhood NOC...

Let the fun begin!

Bea

is there subtext here? like are you gay and trying to tell us something? may i suggest Prince's, "I Wanna Be Your Lover"

I wanna be your
Lover
Wanna be the only one who makes you come
Running--

I wanna be your
Lover
Turn you on turn you out
All night long make you shout
Ahhh, lover, yeah.

Wanna be the only one you come for.

Straight or gay, the message is the same.

I don't think "I'm coming out" was meant as a gay anthem (although it certainly has been embraced and put to use by the LGBT community)...

I still think it's about becoming the best version of yourself...

Sing it Diana!

Beatrice Petty said...

LMAO...

Gay, no... perhaps I would have better luck... would be an option I suppose, but I am a glutton for punishment so hetero-a-go-go it is.

PS. Good song choice.

i live and work in Gay Central. it's sort of a theme here. it's where my assumptions always lead. i'm regularly told that all women are bi, and i'm argued with when i insist i'm straight.

mollyblogger said...

It's like Kinsey said... On a sliding scale from 1 to 5, 1 being straight and 5 being gay... most people are a 2 or 3.

But saying ALL women are bi is like saying ALL men are gay. Because bi men don't exist. I'm convinced. Generally, a bi man is a gay man. They never go back. Unfortunately.

Wow, Bea, look at what my song started!

Alright, fine. I think your theme song should be "Hollaback Girl"

A few times I've been around that track
So it's not just gonna to happen like that
Because I ain't no hollaback girl
I ain't no hollaback girl

Ooooh ooh, this my shit, this my shit

That's deep, man.

Interesting...

OK, I have WEIRD tastes in music. My stereo has been known to play the Grateful Dead, Marylin Manson, Willie Nelson, KMFDM, Mozart, ... in that order. But, here are a few of my theme songs....

Bitter Sweet Symphony - The Verve's version, just gives me this "something spectacular is about to happen" feel.

Woo Hoo - Blur

Jerk It Out - Ceasar's Palace, don't know why but, it makes me happy

Clint Eastwook - Gorillaz, same thing

Super Bon Bon - Soul Coughing

Yeah - Usher

Dizz Knee Land - Dada

Lose Yourself - Eminem

Shaft's Theme - Barry White

Conjunction Junction - School House Rock (I just love this song)

Wait, not many of those songs are much good for a girl's theme song, ..... OK, how about one of these?

Rough Sex - Lords of Acid
Voodoou - also by Lords of Acid

Hot Child in the City - Pat Benetar

I Want Candy - Bangles
Walk Like an Egyptian - Bangles

Bette Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes

Sorry, I'm not really trying to win a prize. I just get carried away when I go digging through my music closet :)

GH: You rock...

Shaft's Theme... nice one.

I love Bitter Sweet Symphony too.

So far you're in the lead!

Hey Bea,

I'm really glad to hear you might be getting over this rough time. I feel like I'm doing a bit the same thing! You're a great person with lots of qualities, trust them! And if you 'screw up' something, at least you can say you tried! That's what I tell myself anyway! What's this new job of yours? Seems interesting...

Theme song. Great idea! Hmm, it's tough though. I like the one Molly suggested, it seems to fit well. If I look at my Winamp list right now, I can suggest a few. But they might apply more to me than you:

Hoobastank - Same direction
Simple Plan - Welcome to my life
Simple Plan - Crazy

And here are a few of my favorite ones, but in French. Les Cowboys fringants are pretty much the biggest group in Quebec right now, and they have awesome texts. I love many songs from them, but in your case, I would suggest:
Les étoiles filantes
Ces temps-ci

You can find their lyrics online somewhere, here's part of Les étoiles filantes:

... Que des étoiles filantes"

Let me know if you need a translator for the Quebec slang in there!

Beatrice Petty said...

You crazy Quebecers and your slang ;)

Thanks J... what a great song.

Yeah, this guy told me the other day that only 3% of women are straight. All the others are bi. I was like, and how do you know this? I get tired of it.

How 'bout La Vie en Rose? Edith Piaf rocks!

Okay Crazy....
Here is my list

My Prerogative - but the original Bobbi Brown Version

Stronger - Brit (just 'cause everyone should have a Brit theme song)
Stronger than yesterday
Now it's nothing but my way
My loneliness aint killing me no more
I'm, I'm stronger

Than I ever thought that I could be, baby
I use to go with the flow
Didn't really care 'bout me
You might think that I can't take it,
but you're wrong,
'cause now I'm...

It's Raining Men!!!!! - maybe life could imitate your theme song

Hanging Tough - New Kids Baby!
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
Everybody's always talkin' 'bout who's on top.
[Rap:] Don't cross our path 'cause you're gonna get stomped.
We ain't gonna give anybody any slack.
[Rap:] And if you try to keep us down we're gonna come right back,
and you know we're
Hangin' tough, hangin' tough, hangin' tough.
[Rap:] Are you tough enough?
Hangin' tough, hangin' tough, hangin' tough.
[Rap:] We're rough.

Don't worry, Be Happy - goes with the getting over yourself?
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it Double
Don't Worry - Be Happy
Don't Worry - Be Happy now
Don't Worry - Be Happy
Don't Worry - Be Happy

Ain't got no place to lay your head,
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't Worry - Be Happy

The landlord say your rent is late,
He may have to litigate
Don't Worry - Be Happy
Look at Me - I'm Happy
Don't Worry - Be Happy
Here I give you my phone number
When you worry call me, I make you happy
Don't Worry - Be Happy

Get up and Go - The Go Go's
If you get up and walk away
Leave the past behind
Go ahead and take a ride
No telling what you'll find

The words you say don't mean a thng
They fly right by my eyes
Lokin the mirror don't look at me
Maybe then you'll realize

CHORUS
So get up and go
If you're so tired of moving slow

I was on the inside
Looking out for you
But you're the one to make the change
There's nothing I can do

Now's the time for you to move
Actions shout out loud
So cut the talk and move your feet
Cuz words get lost in crowds

CHORUS

Quit talking
Start walking now

Okay, that is it for me!

Life's what you make it - Talk Talk;
Dear God - XTC;
Bad - U2;
Skin Deep - The Stranglers;
In my life - The Beatles and if all else fails.......

Go West - Pet Shop Boys (kidding..).

Suggesting that my anthem should be about me going back to whence I came is NOT the best way to help me get the *#@! out of my rut...

Sincerely,

...hence the "kidding"....

you and your _____ cat are most welcome in my fair city.

and if you didn't hear me before, Sooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrryyyyy for the tickle fight. jeesh.

Beatrice Petty said...

Re: tickle fight... former pnb... no need to apologize, I'm sure you didn't intend for me to crack my head on the freezer door handle... but I hope you've learned your lesson. I'm not keen on having to wear a helmet whenever you are around.

Re: my ________ cat. It's so obvious that you are jealous of both my cat's beauty and her intelligence. Poor Ollie.

a) get a room you two

b) I submit Chaka Khan "I'm Every Woman"

Chorus:
I’m every woman, it’s all in me
Anything you want done, baby
I’ll do it naturally
I’m every woman, it’s all in me
I can read your thoughts right now
Every one from a to z

I can cast a spell
With secrets you can’t tell
Mix a special brew
Put fire inside of you
But anytime you feel
Danger or fear
Instantly I will appear, ’cause

I'm every woman, it's all in me
Anything you want done, baby
I do it naturally
oh, oh, oh....

You're kind of Bridget-esque (aren't we all). I think it's fitting.
